How it works

Self Serve Divorce makes the process of filing for divorce simple, affordable, and professional. We have designed this service to guide you through every step of the process.

Who is eligible?

To use Self Serve Divorce, you and your spouse must:

  • File in King County, Washington (at least one of you must be a King County resident).
  • Not currently be represented by an attorney.
  • Agree on all aspects of the divorce, including division of property and debts.
  • Not have dependent children under the age of 18.
  • Not have a restraining order against either party.

If you meet these criteria, Self Serve Divorce can help you complete your divorce quickly and affordably.

Don’t meet these criteria? We can still help! Visit our main website and tell us your story.

1. Answer questions about yourself, your spouse, and your marriage

The first step is to provide us with some basic information. Create an account and complete the interview. We’ll ask about:

  • You and your spouse’s names, birthdates and other information.
  • Marriage details, including the date and location of your marriage.
  • Property, assets, and debts.

The interview is straightforward and designed to gather all information needed to complete the documents you will file with the court. If you have the information at hand, it takes about 20 minutes to complete.

2. Get your documents

Once we’ve collected your information and payment, we will produce all the legal documents you need to file for divorce in King County, Washington. These documents are customized to your specific situation and meet all legal requirements for uncontested divorces in the county.

3. Meet with an attorney

To ensure your peace of mind, our experienced family law attorney will meet with you over a Zoom call to go over your documents and answer any questions you have. This meeting will assist you in completing all documents needed, so that you can feel confident that your divorce papers meet the necessary legal standards.

4. File and finalize

Once your documents have been reviewed, we provide you with detailed instructions on how to file them with King County Superior Court. You will pay filing fees of $314 directly to the court (you can request that these fees be waived if you meet certain criteria).

In most cases, the court will approve the divorce without requiring you to appear in person, but we’ll provide you with guidance if any additional steps are needed.
